I am occupying various provinces. They show some buildings but when I get there they disappear. I understand there can be damage from fighting but to have them all just disappear seems wrong. This even happens without significant fighting.

Yeah, I agree that it's not right. I took a province the other day which had a barracks, a vehicle factory, an ordnance factory, an airstrip and a level 2 fort, it was completely undefended and I took it with just one infantry unit, and after I took it, all it had left was a 0.5 level fort.

If not then please file a bug report.
To make a report go to top right (tools/settings icon) on main tab> fill out report with as much info as possible, Game ID#, country /players name, day of map, and include Screen shots > SUBMITTING A REPORT TO THE SUPPORT TEAM.

Thanks, but I can't return to that particular game to check the newspaper, as I got gold spammed into the ground by a pair of other players, and quit hopefully before my stats were too badly affected.
I've started a new game now and if it happens again, I will report it
