I honestly believe that we should be able to create paths for troops to move in instead of the game automatically creating the shortest path, it would make the game a lot more strategic and easier

its been a while since logging into S1914. But can you not hold ctrl & Left click to chain paths?

you can, by using the command "add target", and forcing your preferred route
