Our team is working hard on bringing our vision for the previously announced Heroes to life. The Beta version of our first Hero - Viscount Allenby - is still available for our Frontline Pioneers to play and try out this great new feature. While we are super excited to share more about what’s coming with all of you, for now we’d like to refresh everyone on Heroes and what they are!
What Happened to Generals?
You’re probably wondering where the new term “Heroes” came from. We found that “Generals” was too specific and restricted us to a certain kind of image. The term Heroes makes us feel much more comfortable in terms of design freedom. It offers a broader range to add exciting and unique units to the game, that would otherwise not fit the narrow alley of only the highest ranking officers. Heroes is a working title and we’re not quite fixed on this new name, so please bear with us as we figure this out, as this might change again. Of course, if you have any suggestions, we’d love to hear them!
What are Heroes?
Heroes are enhanced units who have special skills that can buff the army, or specific units in the army that they’re stacked with. For example, our first Hero, Viscount Allenby, is a cavalry Hero whose current skills offer boosts to all of the units, and also specifically the cavalry in his army:
- Increased Movement Speed: Gives a speed buff to all units in the stack.
- Cavalry Bodyguard: Starts with cavalry units to bolster your initial setup.
- Enhanced Attack Damage of Cavalry Units: Increases the attacking strength of Cavalry in the stack.
The Future of Heroes:
Viscount Allenby is just the beginning of this new adventure. Our dedicated team is working diligently to bring a diverse set of Heroes to life, enabling you to pick, choose and enhance different strategies, depending on your personal playstyle. There will be different Heroes for different unit types, which you can unlock and upgrade as you progress through the game.
- Persistent Units: Heroes will be tied to your account and can be used across different maps. Once you unlock them, they can be deployed in several maps at the same time. As with almost all aspects of Heroes, this might change as we further work on enhancing them.
- Upgradeable Heroes: The current version of Allenby on beta starts on the highest tier, but our intention is that once you’ve unlocked a Hero they start at tier 1 and you will need to upgrade them to progress them to the next tiers and unlock their various skills.
- Deployment Cooldown: Losing a Hero in battle is not the end for them. Your Hero will still be in your account and can be used again. After a cooldown period your Heroes will be ready to rejoin the fight!
We’d like to give a big thank you to everyone who has shared their feedback with us about the Heroes so far. We’re really enjoying hearing your wonderful suggestions and opinions, and you’ve given us some very helpful insights into how we can deliver the best version of Heroes possible. We really can’t wait to share more with you about them. Stay tuned for regular updates about these incredible new units here, on the forum, and in our Official Discord.
