The Holy Roman Empire was a fragmented collection of largely independent states. The position of Holy Roman Emperor was mainly titular, but the Emperors directly ruled a large portion of Imperial territory. The Emperor was thus a major European power in its own right, ruling over multi-million dominions. The division among various duchies, kingdoms, city-states became even deeper with Martin Luther's Protestant Reformation which divided the society on religious beliefs and loyalty to the Holy See and Papal authority.

Since the Great Schism, this can be seen as second major division within the Church, but this one would leave far greater consequences for the people of Europe. Religious tensions boiled throughout the second half of 16th century and some converted bishops refused to give up their bishoprics. Holy Roman Emperors, which were mainly from Austria, and other Catholic rulers sought to restore the power of Catholicism in the region.

Establishing themselves as rulers of mighty Spanish Empire, the Habsburgs of Spain naturally came to aid to their brethren in Austria and Holy Roman Emperor himself. In the short Cologne war, which sought to prevent one of Elector states going Protestant and compromising the elections, Spanish troops helped expel the former prince-archbishop and replace him with a Roman Catholic one. After this success, the Catholics regained peace and the principle of cuius regio, eius religio (literally: whose realm, his religion) began to be exerted more strictly in Bavaria, Cologne and other states. This forced Lutheran residents to choose between conversion or exile.

Thus, as a result of persecutions, lands south of Danube, along with few central European states were largely Catholic, while Lutherans predominated in thh north. They banded together and formed the Protestant Union in 1608 under the leadership of Brandenburg-Prussia, one of very first state to adhere to Lutheranism. Establishment of this Union led the Catholics to band together and form the Catholic League in 1609. This created two large alliances in what is relatively small area of Holy Roman Empire. But soon, tensions and small conflicts came to involve the major powers of Europe, all seeking their own agendas.

France, a long devout Catholic country joined the Protestant Union in order to subdue influence of Austria, the long archenemy and rival of France. They were followed by Kingdom of England who have marital ties with one of the Protestant states and have long before reformed their own Church. Sweden entered as a Protestant brother in the north, but their King and Emperor, Gustav Adolphus has much larger ambition which perhaps include crowning himself as Emperor of Holy Roman Empire. Denmark-Norway entered as part of their relationship with Duchy of Holstein, who they probably seek to incorporate back into Danish crown.

On other side, seeing the ever rising Union, Spanish Empire, who was already partially involved before, pledged it support for Austrian Habsburgs and seek to pacify the Dutch mainly, who broke away from the Spanish crown few decades earlier. Poland, a devoted Catholic country answered the religious zeal and hope to recreate their success with Lithuania, perhaps even snatching few territories for themselves. Alongside with Papal blessing and support, Austrians and Catholic League have lost their initial swing with entrance of other major powers.

It is now 1618, and Europe is about to enter its bloodiest war yet. Who will prevail? Who will rule the Holy Roman Empire and could it perhaps be saved from total destruction? One thing is certain though, there will be a lot of bloodshed and it is up to God to sort his own.

    Available countries:

    Archduchy of Austria/Holy Roman Emperor/Electorate [Austria-Hungary] - Klaassen
    Ruler: Ferdinand II
    Noble House: Habsburg
    Titles: Archduke, Kaiser, Emperor
    Government Type: HRE Electorate, Principality
Additional Information: Archduchy of Austria is the strongest and most influential state in Holy Roman Empire. For couple of centuries already, Holy Roman Emperors came from Habsburg line and during Thirty Years' War, they were devoted defenders of Catholic faith. They entered the conflict with blessing from Pope and with ambition to stop Protestantism from spreading, not only because it is their Catholic duty, but to safeguard their position within the Empire itself. Losing two out of five electorates is already a major blow to prestige and influence of Austria and Habsburg rulers, and they have only managed to save Cologne with Spanish intervention.

    Kingdom of France [France] -
    Ruler: Louis XIII
    Noble House: Bourbon
    Titles: King
    Government Type: Absolute Monarchy
Additional Information: France joined the Thirty Years' War on side of Protestant Union, even though they are firm followers of Roman Catholic Church. However, their involvement in the war is less of religious nature but more strategic as they are trying to limit the strength, expansion and influence of Austria. France find itself surrounded by territory controlled by the two Habsburg states, Spain and Holy Roman Empire, and feeling threatened, was eager to exert its power against the weaker German states. The rivalry is centuries old and a strong, unified Holy Roman Empire under one country and one ruler on the borders of France is never a good idea. But this can prove to be a two-sided blade, as France had its own religious turmoil and Calvinists are awfully close to launching another Reformation War. If France does not play this right, they may have a religious war of their own.

    Spanish Empire [Spain] - Kuril
    Ruler: Philip III
    Noble House: Habsburg
    Titles: King, Emperor
    Government Type: Absolute Monarchy
Additional Information: Spanish Empire is one of the earliest and strongest colonial empires in Europe, benefiting greatly from their oversea possessions in South America. Being part of Habsburg dynasty, Spaniards also inherited the lowlands and administer the province of Milan, which are in or close to borders of Holy Roman Empire. Having lost parts of lowlands to newly found Dutch Republic, their role in the conflict is twofold: they are trying to subdue rebellious Dutch and being devoted Catholics and part of Habsburg dynasty, put an end to this heresy that is going on in northern parts of Holy Roman Empire and Europe in general. Their position within Empire is strong, but their possessions are far away from home with France standing in their way.

    Swedish Empire [Sweden] - UMER
    Ruler: Gustav II Adolf
    Noble House: Vasa
    Titles: King, Emperor
    Government Type: Absolute Monarchy
Additional Information: Sweden was among first ones to reform their Church and adhere to principles and ways of Martin Luther. They have joined the conflict on behalf of Brandenburg-Prussia, but also with appetites of their own. After acquiring parts of Pomerania, Gustav Adolf's plan is to crown himself as Emperor of Holy Roman Empire, reform it to his liking and put an end to centuries old rule of Habsburgs.

Kingdom of Denmark-Norway [Norway] - Michael
    Ruler: Christian IV
    Noble House: Oldenburg
    Titles: King
    Government Type: Absolute Monarchy
Additional Information: Kingdom of Denmark-Norway saw its opportunity with this conflict to impose themselves as masters of north, Holstein in particular. This lucrative part of the Empire was always contested between member states and independent Danish Kingdom. Furthermore, the King of Denmark also holds the title of Duke of Holstein, even though it is not directly under his protection or jurisdiction. Along with sympathy for his Protestant brethren, the King will surely try to up his personal gains rather than Union's.

Crown Kingdom of Poland [Poland] - VictoriousMan
    Ruler: Sigismund III
    Noble House: Vasa
    Titles: King
    Government Type: Elective Monarchy
Additional Information: Poland intervened on behalf of Catholic League due to strong ties and love for Roman Catholic Church. Being ruler of vast Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth at apex of its political and economic influence, Sigismund III did not have the necessary support of Sejm to intervene in the matter. Therefore, he opted to involve parts of Commonwealth, mainly the Polish part which he governed as private property of sorts. Besides strong Catholic beliefs, Sigismund III was King of Sweden until he was deposed at beginning of 17th century. A member of Swedish Vasa dynasty, they share the same blood, but share no love whatsoever.

Kingdom of England [Great Britain] - Killer
    Ruler: James VI
    Noble House: Stuart
    Titles: King
    Government Type: Unitary Parliamentary Monarchy
Additional Information: Kingdom of England just recently formed an union with Scotland and a Scottish Stuart dynasty sits on the throne. Its ties with continental Europe was always sort of limited, but the war within Holy Roman Empire serves as a chance to expand influence beyond the British Isles. Marital ties were an excuse for intervention, but tucked safely behind a wall of water is always a perk. England stands as a great asset to Protestant Union as it can supply with resources, naval blockades or simply send mercenaries to do the dirty work without experiencing any battles on their own soil. However, the Spanish Armada is always a formidable enemy and Parliament won't look keen on a distant war beyond their interest.

Duchy of Brandenburg-Prussia/Electorate [Caucasus] - Marv
    Ruler: George William
    Noble House: Hohenzollern
    Titles: Margrave, Prince-Elector, Duke
    Government Type: Feudal Monarchy
Additional Information: Margrave and Electorate of Brandenburg and Duchy of Prussia have merged into one formidable force within and outside of Holy Roman Empire. They were among first to adhere Protestantism and offered refuge to the fleeing Lutherans and Calvinists. They formed the Protestant Union in 1608, consisting only of Protestant states within Holy Roman Empire, but the Union quickly developed encompassing major powers in Europe like Sweden and France. This is, however, a double edge sword, as Sweden clearly showed huge appetite and won't stop at nothing to achieve its goals, including taking Brandenburg-Prussia lands to boost their influence and power. Alongside Austria and Bavaria, Brandenburg remains as one of the strongest and most influential electoral states. They will surely be targets of Catholic League as they are seen as serpents head.

Duchy of Saxony/Electorate [Russia] - Cypress

    Ruler: John George I
    Noble House: Wettin
    Titles: Duke, Prince-Elector
    Government Type: Feudal Monarchy
Additional Information: Electorate of Saxony is considered to be a true swing state in Holy Roman Empire. The geographical position rather than high standing among the German Protestants gave Saxony much importance during the conflict. John George I, even though a Lutheran, had little sympathy towards growing powers of Bavaria and Brandenburg. Thus, he voted for current Habsburg Emperor and destroyed Protestant opposition. However, the policy of Catholic League to exterminate and root out any signs of Protestantism pushed Saxony in the Union and it now lies as one of its most important members. That is, until John George doesn't says otherwise.

    Duchy of Bavaria/Electorate [N. Russia] - Commander
    Ruler: Maximilian I
    Noble House: Wittelsbach
    Titles: Duke, Prince-Elector
    Government Type: Absolute Monarchy
Additional Information: Maximilian I earned the nickname Great and his reign was marked by acquiring title of Prince-elector of Bavaria. A devout Catholic, he was one of the leading proponents of the Counter-Reformation and founder of Catholic League of Imperial Princes. His rule saw expansion of Bavaria and establishment of one of the stronger states in all of Empire. In addition, Maximilian's brother sits on 'throne' of Cologne, one of the Prince-Electors. Without a doubt, Bavaria will be the biggest ally of Austrian Emperors, but surely they will seek to be justly rewarded for it.

    Archbishopric of Cologne/Electorate [Ukraine]
    Ruler: Ferdinand of Bavaria
    Noble House: Wittelsbach
    Titles: Archbishop, Archbishop-Elector
    Government Type: Elective Principality
Additional Information: Ruled by Maximilian's brother, Ferdinand of Bavaria, Cologne finds itself in precarious position. It is one of electoral states in Empire, but lies firmly in territory of Protestant Union. Loyal to his brother, and thus to the Emperor and Catholic cause, Archbishop of Cologne will surely be site of many battles to come. Not to mention it will be subject of conversion by Union as one more Electoral vote will give significant advantage to Protestant opposition to Habsburg Emperors.

    Dutch Republic [NUSA] - hielke
    Ruler: Maurice of Nassau/Orange
    Noble House: Orange-Nassau
    Titles: Stadtholder
    Government Type: Confederative Republic
Additional Information: The Dutch have seceded from Spanish masters some three decades ago and since then have been in a constant war. Dutch position within the Empire is not clearly defined and their religious beliefs are second to gaining complete independence from Spaniards. But Spanish support for Catholic League pushed them into Union's grip and they are now a big player in the conflict, mainly due to military expertise of Maurice of Nassau who won several important and key battles against Spaniards. For now, the Dutch focus on fighting the Spanish invaders which serves as a great deterrent for other states of Union, seeing how Spanish army is one of the strongest in Europe.

Duchy of Holstein [Greenland] - DFC
    Ruler: Frederick III
    Noble House: Holstein-Gottorp
    Titles: Duke
    Government Type: Feudal Monarchy
Additional Information: Holstein finds itself in precarious position as it borders Kingdom of Denmark. Danish kings have long ruled over parts of these lands and the this northern most border of the Empire has never been clearly defined. Danish kings still hold title of Duke of Holstein, while Frederick III also lays claim to it and is de facto ruler of lands. Being a Lutheran, it mattered little to him as he was focused mostly on trade as well safeguarding his possession from Danes. Frederick III hoped that being part of same alliance will buy him more time to calculate the next steps.

    Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg [N. Canada] - Fire
    Ruler: Christian
    Noble House: Welf
    Titles: Duke
    Government Type: Feudal Monarchy
Additional Information: Duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg is another swing state within the Empire. Initially part of Catholic League, Christian sought to keep the war out of his territory for as long as possible. However, being deep in northern Protestant territory and under major influence of Denmark, Christian was eventually forced to join the Union in order to safeguard his rule and people. Still not in firm grasp of Protestantism, Christian can perhaps be swayed to re-join the Catholic cause as his ambition to be recognized by the Emperor as a worthy subject is great. His aim is to obtain a title of Prince-Elector and increase his and his Duchy's prestige.

    Swiss Confederation [Finland] -
    Ruler: N/A
    Noble House: N/A
    Titles: N/A
    Government Type: Confederation
Additional Information: Swiss Confederation is a loose confederation of different cantons, supporting different rulers and practicing different religion. They have had their own War of Reformation led by Zwingli, however, Swiss position high in the Alps meant that they are not an easy prey for rest of Europe and Empire in particular. The Swiss thus retained their partial autonomy and involved themselves in this conflict strictly out of profit. They offer mercenaries to whoever pays more and have no allegiance to either side. What is more interesting, Swiss mercenaries protecting the state itself as others battle to safeguard its neutrality from falling into enemy’s hands. While not officially at war with any state in the Empire, they will surely be in centre of many battles to come and their mercenary service will tip the favour on one side or the other.

    Republic of Venice [Greece]
    Ruler: Antonia Priuli
    Noble House: N/A
    Titles: Doge
    Government Type: Parliamentary Merchant Republic
Additional Information: Republic of Venice's primary objective is profit and focus on trade. They have joined the conflict to try and snatch some valuable possessions from whoever they can, but proximity to Papal States and Austrian Emperor pushed them to join Catholic League. They have not involved themselves directly in conflict just yet, but offer various mercenary fees to the League in hopes it will repay them in long run.

    Republic of Genoa [E. Algeria]
    Ruler: Pietro Durazzo
    Noble House: N/A
    Titles: Doge
    Government Type: Oligarchic Merchant Republic
Additional Information: Much like Venice's involvement in war, Genoese offers support to Holy Roman Emperor through mercenaries. However, unlike Venice, their position is directly threatened by Kingdom of France and Genoa flocked to Catholic League trying to find strength in unity. They have no big ambitions and are trying to survive by keeping vultures away and fighting far from Genoese possessions.

    Papal States [Italy] - Sigmar
    Ruler: Paul V
    Noble House: N/A
    Titles: Pope
    Government Type: Theocracy
Additional Information: The Pope is firmly against any reformation of Catholic Roman Church and Protestants are heretics in eyes and mind of Holy See. Should Holy Roman Empire fall to Protestants, there won't be anything stopping them from marching to Rome and establishing their heretic and blasphemous ways on one and only Roman Catholic Church. The Papal army is not very strong, but Pope's blessing and influence will surely give zeal to Catholic League.

    Game rules/explanation:

    1. Only what you see on this map is playable. So for example, if France has 4 provinces on map, that means only those 4 provinces are playable and only there can you build armies (infantry, cavalry and such). The rest of territory is blackened, which means that you can
BUILD everything there to sustain your economy, but you CANNOT produce any armies.

    2. Since this is small area, players cannot use full force to attack one another. That means no 100 vs 100 battles or such. Besides, it is beginning of 17
th century and there were no such large forces. Surely they all eventually lost huge numbers, but it is over span of 30 years and there were no such major battles where 200.000 troops died instantly. Instead, players can commit as many troops as they have playable territories. So if France has 4 playable territories, that means they can only deploy 4 troops (whether it is infantry, cavalry or AC is up to player). You may think this is low and it is, but this forces players to work together when waging war (meaning, if you plan an offensive, you will have to work within your alliance to mount a larger scale battle). It will be explained further.

    3. While these small scale fighting can occur without prior notice (since it is 4 troops vs 4 troops), larger scale offensives will have to be announced in DE. So there is no sneak attack. Why is this? Because it is an RP and we are here to write, have fun and do some battles in process. This is also very important for next game rule.

    4. Large scale battles will always be led by a certain general. It is up to players within alliance to deal with this as they please and name a leading general in war (there can also be more generals to lead larger battles and they can take turns as larger battles will hopefully take place all over the map). Generals will have a
RANK SYSTEM. This means that generals who win more battles will gain more ranks/stars. These ranks will be represented by a regular tank. So for instance, a general that won 20-30 battles will be a five-star general and will have 5 regular tanks as part of their army (regardless of number of territories) giving them significant advantage over others. Please note that only battles that are described and posted in DE will be counted! No one will believe you if you just say you have won them. Also note that rank is assigned for mostly larger battles, and it will take a lot of smaller battles to win a rank (this is due to advantage you can gain with ranks). Which brings us to next rule.

    5. Battles will almost always be decided by x-factor and luck. So if 2 armies of let’s say 20 troops clash, there won’t be much room for micromanaging and skill. Apart from perhaps better troops which can help out. This is an RP first and foremost and there is no place for competitiveness, especially on such a small space. Hence why major offensives will be announced in DE, so that the enemy side can organize and mount defence. I am not sure how much time should it pass before players mounting an offensive can attack, but I guess we will try to work it out throughout the game.

    6. Why is troop number limited to number of provinces? Because that will force players to work together. If France has only 4 playable provinces and can send only 4 troops of any type, then they will need help of Sweden, Denmark, England and other small states to actually mount a significant offensive. The map is somewhat balanced, so battles (if in full numbers) will be equal. But this also brings to another dynamic and fun of the RP. In order to mount good offensive and lead a big battle, you need everyone to contribute. So one player that does not contribute can be a big difference between victory or defeat. This is also good for RP in terms of bribing, plotting and scheming. To sum up, any big offensive will be composed of troops from various states (meaning 4 troops from France, 2 from England, 3 from Sweden, 1 from Saxony, 2 from Dutch etc.). It is up to players to send infantry units or mechs.

    7. And mechs bring us to another topic which is artillery. I am not sure whether we should allow artillery as the area is too small and cannot be controlled unless you have HC to stop firing. But even then, the range is too great for such a small space. I was thinking of limiting troops to only infantry, cavalry, AC’s (which is another sort of cavalry) with Heavy Tank representing your ruler or famous general (in case it is destroyed, you have to RP death or capture) and regular tanks are used as rank points. As far as navy goes, I am not sure if there is much use of it for now, but we can always deal with it as RP progresses.

    8. If there is a major battle and one side loses, that means there is a clear path to the province. Regardless if player still has 100 more troops, they cannot be deployed to defend the province. However, the province will have a certain amount of garrison which is allowed and is dependent on fort lvl. So a lvl 1 fort can have 1 infantry troop (or troop of any other type), lvl 2 can have 2 troops and so on up to lvl 5 fort which can have 5 troops. If a player loses the province, he is not defeated since he has territories outside of playable part of map. It is up to victor's to restore the player as his puppet, force him to convert and join their cause etc. etc. Or the player can be without territory until other players liberate him (in which case the player will basically be in exile).

    9. Switzerland is not part of any alliance and is a neutral supplier of mercenaries. The player can choose a side, but it is much more interesting if we had them as a neutral player, somewhat a joker for those big battles. 1 or 2 extra troops can be crucial in 20 vs 20 battle where x factor decides. As I said, player can choose a side through RP, but at beginning of RP they are neutral.

    10. I reserve all rights to change, add or remove some of these rules depending on how RP goes. Sometimes we just have to go with the flow and it is impossible to pin-point everything prior to starting the game. Also note that due to lower playerbase recently, we may have to cut down some nations and prioritize others. I have a new map in case we don't reach these 18 players required now for ultimate fun.

I think this covers it all as far as game rules and mechanics go. I know it is a bit alternate and looks complicated, but it is actually quite a fun concept I think. Players are highly dependable on each other in order to do anything. This game is surely not for those who seek to expand a lot and dominate. But if you are a fan of roleplaying, writing, small scale skirmishes and organized larger scale battles, then this is for you. Now on to the Holy Roman Empire mechanics.

    Holy Roman Empire

There are five electors in Holy Roman Empire. They elect new Emperor and vote on important reformations within the Empire (like appointing another elector, some laws, demoting elector etc). For any reform or change to be pushed through, Emperor needs 4 out of 5 electors voting on it. Emperors usually rule until they die, but since this is an RP and we don’t need one player to hold the position forever, Emperor can be forced to abdicate if there are 4 out of 5 votes. Elections will also be held every 20 days (this is subject to change should the need arise). Then next Emperor can be elected and winner is one with most votes. If there is a stalemate in election of new Emperor, then elections go another round until one candidate gets most of the votes.

Emperor can appoint (these are just for RP purpose and influence based for now, as I don’t know how any bonuses will affect balance of the RP):

    1. Reichsmarschall - General of the Holy Roman Empire, coordinating military efforts and defence of the Empire.
    2. Reichskanzler - Chancellor of the Holy Roman Empire, governing and making decisions in Emperor’s absence.
    3. Reichs Schatzmeister - Treasurer of Holy Roman Empire, coordinating finances on behalf of the Emperor.

Please state which country you would like to lead to glory in this war and write a short sample on the country you've chosen during this time period. This is to show you are serious about roleplaying and that you aren't actually lazy to do a bit of research.

    Discord

This roleplay is part of our roleplaying community called United Gamers and Roleplayers [UGR] so if you are interested to join, please hit me up. If you join this RP, then you will have to join Discord chat in order to be up to date on current issues related to RP.

Remember, this RP is on really small area so stick to the rules of warfare. Only territories that you see on this landshuffle map are playable, meaning you can produce troops there only and you can invade from those provinces only. Rest of your territory is buildable for resources, but you cannot produce units there. Roleplay is designed to be interesting on small scale with lots of action (skirmish battles of 2-5 units) and for a bigger offensive, everyone has to participate. Expanding here is almost non-existent, but the fun will not be missing if we play this right.

Thank you and let's enjoy this RP.

An honest private man often grows cruel and abandoned when converted into an absolute prince.
Give a man power of doing what he pleases with impunity, you extinguish his fear.
Consequently overturn in him one of the great pillars of morality.

I reserve Austria. Will write a sample tomorrow.

„Whoever desires to serve as a soldier of God beneath the banner of the Cross, which we desire to be designated by the Name of Jesus, and to serve the Lord alone and the Church, his spouse, under the Roman Pontiff, the Vicar of Christ on earth, should, after a solemn vow of chastity, poverty and obedience strive for the defence and propagation of the faith and for the progress of souls in Christian life and doctrine...“

These are the words forever engraved in mind and soul of His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Ferdinand II. From a young age, he was a devout follower of Jesuits, enrolling in their school where he became a rigid and tough Catholic ruler. They have showed him light and path, the true ways of Catholicism and Holy Roman Church. When he returned to Austria, he set to succeed the childless Emperor Matthias. He did so with the help of his cousins in Spain, as well as other various German princes, namely Maximilian I of Bavaria.

Being crowned Archduke of Austria and Emperor of Holy Roman Empire, he was also crowned as King of Bohemia. Only months after coronation, the mainly Protestant part of Bohemia rose against him and wished to crown Frederick V of Palatinate as their lawful king. With help of Bavaria, Ferdinand II crushed the Bohemian rebels, ending their desires for autonomy, solidifying his rule and effectively starting a major war between Protestants and Catholics. Maximilian I effectively conquered Electorate of Palatinate and became Prince-Elector of Holy Roman Empire and staunchest supporter of His Imperial Majesty.

Ferdinand II grew up to be a devout Catholic, and strictness as well as rigidness from his years in Jesuits school made him a merciless fighter against heretics. To the Catholics he is a hero, a saviour and a benevolent ruler. To Protestants, he is a fearless tyrant whose only goal is to eradicate the Reformation and unite Holy Roman Empire under one religion. Alongside of Bavaria, Austria remains biggest supporter of Counter-Reformation.

„Repent. Repent is the only way to save your soul. Reformation only corrupts it and leads to eternal flames, for Hell is the only place for Lutherans. I furthermore promise and declare that I will, when opportunity present, make and wage relentless war, secretly or openly, against all heretics, Protestants and Liberals, as I am directed to do, to extirpate and exterminate them from the face of the whole earth. I will spare neither age, sex or condition and I will hang, flay, strangle and bury alive these infamous heretics in order to annihilate forever their execrable race. Should they come to their senses and repent for their sins, they shall be forgiven and given a place among equals, for they are our brothers who have strayed. Should they continue to, openly or secretly, blaspheme and oppose Papal and Emperor's authority, God's servants on Earth, I will use everything in my power, be it a poised cup, the strangulating cord, the steel of the poniard or the leaden bullet, to take life of these heretics regardless of their honour, rank, dignity or authority and whatever may be their condition in life, either public of private. As I, at any time, may be directed to do so by any agent of the Pope or Superior of the Brotherhood of the Holy Faith, of the Society of Jesus.“ – Ferdinand II, Archduke of Austria and Emperor of Holy Roman Empire

    Papacy for you milord.
An honest private man often grows cruel and abandoned when converted into an absolute prince.
Give a man power of doing what he pleases with impunity, you extinguish his fear.
Consequently overturn in him one of the great pillars of morality.
The madness. The treachery. The strong mixture of troubles.
It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways.
    More than a man.
    More than a king.
    More like God!

Dominion over nature, crosses the line into the relation to other men.
Proper appetite and desire becomes lust and passion.
The dominion that man is to have over nature, he also seeks to have over his brothers.
So crossing the line of his own proper dominion, and crossing on Gods...

Only God is to have dominion over all!

    Sample- (they just equalised arghhh)
“There are enemies of Christ The Ascended everywhere. To the west, to the east, to the south, and to the north. Yet this does not stop us. The Trinity are with us. Christ has appointed me for you. I shall lead you against the enemies of Christ The Redeemer. God shall smite his wrath over the heathens of this foul world. For he is with us. The Holy Ghost lies within each and every one of you, and he urges us, from his temple within us, to fight the traitors of the Lord, and those who cannot see the Light. Those without the light will perish. We shall live on, with the power, strength, humility and love of the eternal God. We shall build Jesus Christ of Nazareth’s Kingdom on Earth. Do not doubt me.”

He paused, taking in a breath.

“Already soldiers of God doubt. Although the Venetians fling over weak and foolish minded soldiers to aid in the creation of the new garden of Eden, they protest from within their banks and corporate estates. Namely of course, I refer you to the Barbaro’s who scheme and make devil-bound plans- they influenced the forbidding of the alienation of real estates in favour of the Holy Clergy, they influenced the decision of the Venetian republic to tie the bidding of the Holy See in the progression of the transpiration of this world to the next, to a civil court. And this is not it! People of the Papacy, people of the Holy Vatican, this is not it! Do I need to remind your gracious memories of the imprisonments- nay, you heard me right, most-esteemed Bishop of Courcisela, imprisonment- of the embatticles of Christ on this terrificus world. These troublings have stayed on mind for years. And such is a prime example of the influence of Lucifer. Lucifer lies everywhere. He lies within Europe. I see him. I have the power to destroy him. But I need you. One of the central beliefs of Christianity is that Jesus will return in glory. In spite of the fact that the Gospels tell us we do not know the day or the hour, some Christians decorate their homes with signs that declare "Christ is Coming Soon!" It seems to me that we spend far too much time concentrating on this. Someday Christ the almighty will return and the end will come. However, it does not really matter when that will happen--whether it is soon or centuries from now. What really matters is how we get there--what we do with this life. But remember- it will happen. Amen. Go in peace my friends of Christ the Omnibenevolent.”

He closes the bible he was holding, and lifts his hands in an elated position.

    “Join me in this prayer.

Look down with maternal clemency, most Blessed Virgin, upon all your children. Consider the anxiety of bishops who fear that their flocks will be tormented by a terrible storm of evils. Heed the anguish of so many people, fathers and mothers of families who are uncertain about their future and beset by hardships and cares. Soothe the minds of those at unholy war and inspire them with "thoughts of peace."Through your intercession, may God, the avenger of injuries, turn to mercy. May He give back to nations the tranquility they seek and bring them to a lasting age of genuine prosperity.”
The thousands in St Peter’s square cried out in unison- “AMEN!”

The Pontifical Swiss guard swarmed onto the open stage, as the pope walked off, surrounded by the Clergy of Christ.

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."
    - Winston Churchill.

    ================================================== ====
~ THE LION OF THE NORTH ~

    Year : 1618
    Date : 17th August
    City of Koninseburg, Northern Germany.

    ~ Prologue :-

It was late spring and mid of August, the Swedish Navy was laying blockade of the port city of Koninseburg and were awaiting for their King's arrival. There was dense fog on horizon and the baltic sea itself was in eerie silence that night. The garrison of the city had no knowledge of what was about to happen and many of them were in their quarters soundly asleep. The declaration of war was made by the Swedish Empire and while the iron was hot, it was about time to strike and support their Protestant brethen in Northern Europe...

From a distance behind the blockade, a lamp was shinning and it was being used as signal, Admiral Alexander Leslie knew the signal and the path was cleared for the landfall of King's Army. Before the landfall happened, a series of barrage from Swedish Frigates and Galleons shook the city up as if some earthquake had arrived. Filled with panic and fear, the citizens and soldiers took shelter wherever they could and the bells of churches were rung to alert everyone. Shells were raining down on the city and craters were replacing buildings and streets. The coastal batteries returned fire but the surprise attack had took out much of the guns already so it was not effective.

As the rowing boats reached the port of the city, the Swedish soldiers and sailors jumped out of their boats and with the fearsome roar shouted, " For Kung och land ! "

The Swedish Musketeers lined up in the port area and opened fire recklessly on anyone they could spot in front of them, with last barrage from swedish ships ending, the soldiers of both sides holding rapiers and pikes charged into each other in city's square. The bloodbath ensued, as pikes were penetrated into bodies and rapiers sliced the organs, but with arrival of King Gustav II Adolf and his Royal Swedish Guard the resistance was futile.

Throughout the night, city was on display as huge bonfire, the burning city could be seen from miles. By dawn, fire was out but smoke and smell of blood was still there. Corpses were lying in streets, buildings and everywhere with more craters left than intact buildings, the flags of the Holy Roman Empire were thrown away, only to replaced by Swedish Standard and blue and yellow.

The air was filled with blood and smoke and it was clear, that Europe's biggest war had begun...

After long times of thinking, I decided to apply for your RPG. So like I took the HRE of Turk's Medieval RPG, because I'm a German, I want do it again. As a child of Brandenburg and Berlin and as a big fan of the Kingdom of Prussia and the House of Hohenzollern, I would like to apply for Brandenburg-Preußen. My sample will follow later. I need some time to write it, because english is not just easy for me.
