    Attention, Generals!

While the dev team is working hard to further improve the usability and performance of our recently launched Supremacy 1 app, our game designers are still laboriously testing the game's balancing and reviewing your feedback and suggestions. Today's release sets out to streamline and improve a maybe underrated but pivotal element of combat in Supremacy 1: the terrain effect balancing.

Picking the right units for a fight is the most important decision to be made before attacking, but choosing the right terrain is nearly as important since units can gain significant buffs or debuffs when fighting depending on the terrain. With this update we shift the focus of terrain effects away from individual units. Instead each terrain type now has a specific profile that affects all units equally. To retain unit specializations certain units may receive up to two unique buffs or debuffs on certain terrain types.

    1592321868_news_images_17298.jpg

As an example, urban provinces are very easy to defend since all units get +50% on their defending capabilities and their move speed is reduced by 25%. Plains on the other hand are very easy to attack since all units get +50% on their attacking capabilities and their move speed is increased by 50%.

In addition to the terrain effect changes, today's release also includes a number of quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes. Please find the complete list of all changes and updates below:

    General:

    • We streamlined and improved the terrain effects balancing: We changed the terrain effects to consistently grant the same buffs and debuffs to all units, with the exception of 2 terrains per unit, on which said units can receive different buffs or debuffs to differentiate their role.
    • We made some minor adjustments to specific units:
      • We made the Flamethrower an offensive unit with high damage but low health.
      • We increased the Gas Artillery attack range to match the attack range of the regular Artillery.
      • We unified the Gas Cloud area of effect radius across all Gas Cloud levels
    • We reduced the province morale penalty caused by low-morale neighbor provinces to avoid players getting stuck in downward spirals of low morale.
    • We ported the Strategic Advisor feature from desktop to mobile to better guide mobile players in their first steps in the game.
    • We introduced a low GPU mode to allow the game to run more smoothly on low-end mobile devices by reducing rendering effects.
    • We increased the number of countries players can choose from when joining the 19p Europe map from 3 to 6.
    • On mobile, we drastically improved the readability of the resource icons in the top bar and throughout the UI.
    • On mobile, the production menu now makes it easier to see which building is required to recruit a specific unit by using building icons for the list filters.
    • We updated and unified the look of building and unit icons in the mobile UI.
    • We implemented a new loading screen on mobile.
    • We adjusted the descriptions of most units to better explain their gameplay role.
    • We renamed the armor classes to better reflect the units that are using each class.
    • On desktop, we relocated the Archived Games by introducing a toggle in the My Games section for easy switching between active and archived game rounds.
    • On desktop, we changed the tab order on the Ranking page to put more emphasis on the weekly ranking.
    • On desktop, we now highlight the top 5 players of the week on the main page (instead of just the top-ranking player) to celebrate our most skilled generals.
    • We adjusted the timer indicating the end date of a game round to only show up 7 days before the game actually ends. You can always look up the end date of a game round in the "Game Info" section of the Newspaper.

    Bug fixes:

    • We fixed a bug that caused app crashes and black screens on certain devices whenever a Gas Cloud was deployed or a unit was withdrawing from combat.
    • We fixed a bug that led to the names of Insurgent players to be displayed incorrectly in the Front Reports.
    • We fixed a bug that led to some entries in the Front Reports to overlap with other entries.
    • We fixed a bug on mobile that led to missing unit images in the army statistics section of the user profile.
    • We fixed a bug that prevented the ranged attack arrow from being displayed consistently.
    • We fixed a bug on mobile that prevented players from scrolling down when reading a message that exceeded the initial message space.
    • We fixed a bug on mobile that caused the small plus icons to be missing when using the “add army” functionality.

We hope you like the changes and wish you best of luck on the battlefield!

    Attention, Generals!

Today’s release brings some very nice bug fixes to Supremacy 1914. We fixed the rally point issue that bothered some of our desktop players for some time and explained to units how to avoid detours on the map.

Please find a complete list of today’s bug fixes below.

    Bug fixes:

    • We fixed an issue that prevented rally points of provinces from working correctly on desktop when rally points were not set to a province center.
    • We resolved an issue that could cause units to take extensive detours when sent from a province center to another location on the map.
    • We resolved an issue that caused flags to overlap with the text in the newspaper on Android and iOS.

We hope you like this week’s bug fixes and that they help you and your troops to be victorious on the battlefield!

    Did this update not happen?

    from the 19 may announcement:

"Therefore we adjusted the province morale baseline in a way that at the start of the game all provinces are in a healthy and stable state which can only be changed by actions within the game."

It should have happened. If you happen to enter a new game round where that is not the case, please let me know.

    Attention, Generals!

The team continued its never ending fight against bugs in Supremacy 1914! Today’s release is no exception, and we managed to hunt down and fix quite a few this time. Please check the following list for a complete overview:

    Bug fixes:

    • We fixed a bug that prevented the correct revolt chance being displayed in the province morale tooltip.
    • We fixed a bug on Desktop that caused certain buttons to disappear from the army bar when multiple units were given orders using the lasso tool.
    • We resolved an issue that caused an empty bar being displayed below the unit graphic in the dialog window when splitting a stack of units.
    • We removed some filter options in the settings menu which are not available in Supremacy 1914.
    • We adjusted the contextual tutorial to no longer provide game play hints right after the player completed the tutorial.
    • We fixed a bug that could cause an error message to appear when switching between different game rounds.
    • We fixed a bug that prevented some links in the iOS app from working on the opening screen after the app was installed.
    • We resolved an issue that caused the wrong text being displayed in the ‘Rewards” tab in the newspaper of Points-of-Interest maps, like the Mesopotamia map.

We hope you like this update and wish you and your troops a victorious day on the battlefield!

    Dear Generals and fellow gamers.

With every update we bring improvements to the balancing of the game but with today’s update we are excited to bring you a big one! Since you guys have been with us since the beginning we would like to take the chance and explain to you the major changes and especially why we are doing them.

    Unit production restrictions:

“Unnecessary complexity should be reduced whilst maintaining strategic depth.”

Planning ahead is a big topic in Supremacy 1 but researching a powerful unit and not being able to produce it right away is a bad experience. That’s why now every level of a unit will be producible with the corresponding building at level 1, while building upgrades provide a production speed boost instead. That way you are not forced to max out production buildings before building high level units.

    Province morale baseline:
“Every action should feel impactful and change the flow of your game.”
Getting an overview of how the morale in your country is evolving and how you can affect it can be tricky. Therefore we adjusted the province morale baseline in a way that at the start of the game all provinces are in a healthy and stable state which can only be changed by actions within the game. Positive moral effects will be added to all buildings and will also increase the spread of positive and negative trends from the neighbouring provinces. That way it is possible to create hotspots that create a positive trend but warfare will create hotspots with a negative trend and it is up to you to find the right balance between economic growth and territorial expansion.

    View range and move speed:
“Responding to attacks should be possible at any stage of the game to keep as much action in the game for as long as possible.”
We have increased the view range of all units. The producible units will get a bigger buff than the Conscript. That way it will be easier to scout your country borders early on and producing units early is also more beneficial. The move speed growth behaviour also gets a slight overhaul. Researching higher levels of units wont grant small move speed buffs every level but instead provide a bigger buff in the later levels.

    Meaning of resources:
“Upgrading the economy of your country and building up a war machinary should not be blocked by each other.”
In line with the game’s new economic changes, Money is now mainly spent on buildings while also reducing the money cost of units. This helps to avoid blocking the development of a country's economy when building up an army. Money is produced mainly in urban provinces and can be boosted with the Propaganda Office and the Headquarter buildings. That way every building is beneficial all the time but strategic positioning of buildings will have a bigger impact on the economy.

The balancing update is just one of many changes that were implemented in the game with today’s release. Please find a list of all changes below:

    New feature:

    • We implemented the new [Tutorial] Europe 1914 map in the game.

    General:

    • We adjusted the balancing of several aspects of the game:
      • Unit production
      • Province morale
      • View range & unit speed
      • Resources
    • We made several adjustments to the AI:
      • AI countries now frequently declare war against each other.
      • AI countries do not mass target a limited amount of players anymore. AI countries declarations of war are distributed more equally now.
    • We made it more clear that insurgent provinces are part of a players nation.
      • We removed country borders between any province that belongs to a player and the player’s insurgent provinces.
    • We removed the search game tab from the game overview page.
      • The "Search a game" function is now located in the "Join Games" tab and can be found below the big scenario tiles.

    Bug fixes:

    • We resolved an issue that caused an empty bar being displayed below the unit graphic in the dialog window when splitting a stack of units.
    • We adjusted the contextual tutorial to no longer provide game play hints right after the player completed the tutorial.
    • We resolved an issue that prevented some newspaper articles from being displayed correctly.

We hope you like the new balancing, the new Europe 1914 map and all the other changes and bug fixes we released today! Best of luck on the battlefield!

    Attention, Generals!

Today we introduce to you one of the highlights of our next big update to Supremacy 1: The Great War which will go live later this week: The [Tutorial] - Europe 1914 map!

Senior Game Designer Markus ‘XFuchsGeiserichX’ Schüssler takes you into the year 1914 and presents his latest creation for Supremacy 1: The Great War.

"The great European nations are at the peak of their power and technological progress seems to open up unlimited possibilities. Heavily armed nations however, eye each other jealously and a single spark threatens to blow up all of Europe.

The Europe 1914 map takes the player into the year 1914 shortly before the outbreak of the First World War. The nations are drawn within the historical boundaries. With small deviations to promote the gaming experience: parts of Poland are for instance independent to allow for adjacent players for expansion without immediately entering PvP.

The map features 19 playable nations to stay close to the historical period and ensure replayability. 1914 is the age of empires and it is important to us to reflect that on the map. We do hope that all players that are interested in this time period will enjoy this fact. The playstyle of the nations is quite different – each nation facing its own individual challenges and opportunities. The huge and powerful Russia for instance, can play defensively at the beginning and build up its economic strength. Serbia on the other hand, is very small and surrounded by other small competitors – and thus might be more suitable for players who prefer early expansion.

We wanted to involve the US and Canada – as they played a major role especially in the late war – and have therefore placed them at a rather symbolic distance from Europe. Islands should make it possible to advance from bases in America to Europe or the other way around.

The great powers are only slightly stronger than the small nations – but with significantly more complex borders. By doing this, we want to make sure that every nation plays well and offers players comparable opportunities. Finally, we reduced the feature set for this map as this map is our new tutorial map and we wanted to gate the content and not overwhelm new players: you will find neither rivers nor roads. We want to reserve these more complex mechanics for the more experienced players.”

The new [Tutorial] - Europe 1914 map and more updates will be released later this week to Supremacy 1: The Great War! We hope you like the new map as much as we do. We cannot wait to hear your feedback on the forums in the days to come and wish you best of luck on the battlefield!

    Your Bytro Team

The reason you did not win a solo victory is because you won with your coaliton.

When you are part of a coalition you are considered for coalition victory only. That is by design. Single players can compeete with coalitions for victory, but only if they indeed play solo and are not part of a coaltion.

This is also visible when you look at the rankings of a game round. At first place of the ranking is your coalition not you as a solo player, due to the fact that you are part of that coalition.

I hope that answers your question. :)

    Quote

I would like to verify that the winning criteria is the absolute score rather than the nearest to victory score (raw number versus percentage).

Edit: after another round of checks...

"Victory rewards are now based on each player’s or coalition’s relative progress towards their respective victory condition. This progress is reflected in a joint ranking table, accessible through the timer in the top right corner of the screen or from the new ranking indicator in the top bar."

What you descirbe and as you stated, relevant for time boxed rounds only. In case you have a round where that is/was not the case, could you tell me which map that was and/or provide a game ID so we can take a look at it?

    Attention, Generals!

We would like to provide you with an update on yesterday’s server issues.

Last night between 8 PM CEST (6 PM UTC) and 11:30 PM CEST (9:30 PM UTC) players that logged in to Supremacy 1 experienced slow games, had difficulties using the shop or could not access their games properly.

The reasons we identified is the current spike in player activity in our games. We are living in special times after all and we are having a close eye on server performance, stability and reliability. After identifying the root cause of the problem, the team was able to fix the issue.

Servers are back to normal and players can access their games again!

We understand that this likely had an effect on current wars of some players so we decided to compensate all players who tried to play between 7PM CEST (5PM UTC) and 11:59 PM CEST (09:59 PM UTC) with 1,000 Gold on Monday. It will be added to the account of affected players automatically within 48 hours (starting on Monday).

We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this and wish you all the best on the battlefield.
